Order fulfillment (FBM - Fulfilled by Merchant) allows sellers to ship products directly to customers from a U.S. warehouse instead of using Amazon FBA. This model gives sellers greater control over inventory, shipping methods, packaging, and customer experience.
FBM fulfillment is commonly used for oversized items, slow-moving SKUs, customized products, or channels where Amazon FBA is not cost-effective. It also provides flexibility when sellers want to diversify fulfillment strategies beyond Amazon warehouses.
Inventory is stored at the warehouse and synced with your order flow. When an order is placed, items are picked, packed, and shipped directly to the customer using the selected carrier and service level. Tracking information is generated and passed back to your system or marketplace.
FBM is often used when products have higher storage costs at Amazon, require special handling, or are sold across multiple channels. It is also useful during peak seasons when Amazon fulfillment capacity is constrained or inbound delays occur.
Many sellers use a hybrid model: fast-moving items go to Amazon FBA, while slower or specialized SKUs are fulfilled via FBM from a third-party warehouse.
